A MESSAGE FROM THE MOTHERS’ UNION

Our Mothers’ Union (MU) meets once a month, on
the first Wednesday, at 4:30 p.m. We also run the Medical
Clinic, for the people of the area, every Tuesday at 4:30
p.m. The MU holds two "Jumble Sales" every year; and
with the monies collected from such ventures, we target
numerous outreach activities. This year, on Ash
Wednesday, we visited a Special Educational School and
Home for Mentally Challenged Boys, at Madiwela. We
provided them lunch; and with contributions received
from members, we gave them cakes, chocolates, and
fruits too; making their faces light up; it was so touching! |

| It is really heartening for us to see how our members readily
contribute whenever such appeals are made. For instance,
our members helped make a significant contribution to the
Cancer Transit Home, Maharagama, in memory of the late
Brenda Jayasinghe, who was very involved in the Home. We
also gave a donation towards educational material to the SOS
Childrens’ Village in Piliyandala. |

Our activities have days of fun and frolic thrown in too,
especially during our much looked forward to picnics! This
year, our annual picnic was to an "Organic Farm" in Malwana.
