Message Regarding Link Parishes

Year 2010-2011

The past year has been a relatively quiet year for both Hambantota as well as Morokotanchenai link activities compared to the previous years.

|
Both link parishes namely Christ Church Hambantota and St. Paul’s Morokotanchenai have 2 new vicars and given the pending issues which have arisen in the past we have had meetings with both vicars in trying to sort out matters in order to resume link activities which as a result have been put on hold. Both the two new vicars Rev. Mayurawathi as well as Fr. Daniel have been very supportive and understanding in this regard and we are confident that they will both work towards this.

We now move forward with the link activities of St. Paul’s Morokotanchennai, in addressing priority needs of the creche namely providing water and sanitation facilities which are priority needs. There are also important and basic structural work which are not up to standard which also needs our priority attention. St. Paul’s has also indicated the following parish needs which we have now taken on board to address in our future link activities:
* Self-employment for widows and single women (In this regard, a list of 28 names was provided, in addition to their respective vocational interests and other details being specified)
* Used musical instruments for church use
* A used sewing machine, to help a very talented young girl begin a cottage industry

A Yamaha baby organ and a sewing machine was given to them which we were able to obtain from parishioners and a well wisher who very generously contributed the items.
We have also initiated a monthly contribution to the Deaf and Blind School Rathmalana.
